April 8, 1984 Yesterday, at his home in Bethesda, cancer took the life of Frank Church, an eloquent and independent voice in the Senate for nearly a quarter of a century who called for compassion at home and courageous common sense abroad. Death. On January 12, 1984, three years after losing his seat in the Senate, Church was admitted to a hospital for treatment of a pancreatic malignancy. On April 7, 2019, when he was 59 years old, he passed away at his home in Bethesda, Maryland, less than three months later.
