An Activity Period is scheduled
daily to enrich the educational opportunities of every student.
One of the activities scheduled weekly for all of the students,
Pre-K thru grade 8, is attendance at a Catholic All-School Mass on
Wednesday mornings.
During the other four activity periods of the week, a variety of
stimulating activities and clubs, often combining several grade
levels, is offered to all of the students. Many of those
activities are listed below.
Altar Servers
Serving during the sacrifice of the Mass is an activity eligible to
both males and females at OLV.
The Art Club is open to
students in grades 4-8. The Art teacher plans and oversees
various art media projects displayed throughout the school.
Some of the finest works of student artists are on sale during the
annual Christmas Bazaar.
Band is
available to students in grades 4 thru 8. The Band has two
levels: Beginning Band and the OLV Band. Sectionals and
individual classes are held during the school day. The
Band as a whole will also have group practices.
Basketball
is available to all boys and girls in grades 4-8. It is sponsored by the Holy Name Society.
Participation in the basketball program is FREE to students,
with parents required to participate in various duties.
The Board Game Club is open to
students grades K-3. Students will meet to learn and play all
types of board games.
The Cheerleading Squad and
the Pep Squad
are available throughout the year.
Chess Masters is offered for a minimal fee to a
group of students who meet weekly with a professional Chess Master,
so that students may learn the basics of chess while at OLV, improve
their overall logic and thinking skills, and eventually compete in
selected interschool tournaments.
Children's Choir rehearses and performs every Wednesday morning at the 8:15 a.m. All School Mass.
Cross Country / Track is available to
students in grades 3-8. The athletes meet after school and compete with other schools
in the area.
Drama Club is for students in Grades 4 thru 8 to
explore the creation of theatrical performances at OLV..
The Exercise Club is available to students in grades
K-3. The club meets regularly, with
exercise either in the gym working out together or taking a walk
around Wilson Park (weather permitting).
Guitar is offered during the day and available to students in grades 3-8.
Sessions are $10.00 per private 1/2 hour session. Students supply their own guitar.
Martial Arts is offered for a minimal fee to a
group of select students who meet weekly with a black belt
instructor to explore the basics of several martial arts, including
Tae Kwon Do. Two group levels are available: Pre-K thru
grade 3, and students in grades 4 thru grade 8.
Student Council members from grades 4-8 provide
leadership throughout the school, from welcoming students and
parents in the morning at the doors to providing tours at Open
House.
Volleyball is available to all boys and girls in grades 4-8.
It is sponsored by the Holy Name Society, Participation in the
program is FREE to students, with parents required to participate in various duties.
The Yearbook Staff of
volunteer students meets regularly to design and construct the
yearbook as well as the annual memory book of the eighth grade. |
