Make Religious Education a Priority
As
Director of Religious Education at Our Lady of Victory Parish I take
my job very seriously. I love what I do. Religious
education is in my blood. I have always been passionate about
what I do.
Children are our future. What is instilled in them from a very early
age on is with them a lifetime. They learn by our examples.
It is
important as Catholics to baptize our children, and follow through
with the sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation.
The children at Our Lady of Victory receive baptism usually when
they are a few months old. Some families wait longer. Reconciliation
takes place in grade 2. Eucharist is in grade 3 followed by
Confirmation in grade 8.
Children are supposed to have continuing education through all 8
years of grammar school. Ideally, if they are in our grade school,
religion is part of the
curriculum. If the children are in the public school they come to
REP classes on Wednesday evenings.
If
there is a break in the years of taking religion classes, or
sacraments are missed, then the work needs to be completed before a
child receives a sacrament.
It is
so important for parents to come to parent meetings regarding the
sacraments. So often parents neglect the responsibility due to other
commitments, etc. Please try to stay connected and take an interest
in your childs learning.
From
time to time I offer enrichment for parents. There is little or no
cost involved, and it helps you to grow in your faith. Please take
advantage.
On
February 5, 2010, R.E.P. will be offering a night out for all OLV/REP
families. It will be held in the school hall. We will have dinner,
and a very special guest for the children. This will be a fun filled
evening where everyone will have the chance to get to know each
other, share a meal, and enjoy a show. More details will follow!
Thank
you for giving me the opportunity to help you and your family. If at
any time you have questions or concerns about religion, your faith,
sacraments, or anything related to our faith programs please feel
free to contact me at 773-286-2950 ext. 18 or 23.
May God
bless you and your families.
